Some tricks for the new players

Post  MeTaL_SpArTaN on Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:16 am

Hi guys, I'm just making this short guide for new members who have not got much experience in the game. I take it that you would have a quiet large town before joining anyway at least lvl 12. As you know research is one of the most valuable assets in the game. The more research you do the more units, ships and bonuses become available to you.

It is a good idea to alternate your research once you have successfully completed at least two researches in a profession. The professions are seafaring, economy, science and military. Most people will start off with military as they want to be strong and able to defend themselves. This is a good idea to start with but the other professions give you bonuses that can be just as strong. Take economy for instance; you have lots of bonuses that make your people happy and in return this will make your town bigger with more money and a higher chance to collect wood and resources that are on your island.

You will realise that to start off with you don't have all the resources. Well to get around that you will need to research seafaring to get the expansion bonus and this allows you to found a new colony on another island that perhaps has the resource you need or are currently missing. Once you have your new colony you need to just set it up the same way you did for your main town. A good tip is that if you don't have marble on your island, you put a colony on a marble island as this is the main contruction item.

You can also trade with other players that have marble instead and offer your resource as a trade. Once you have a nice amount of marble you can really start upgrading your town. A good measure is to make your town to around lvl 20. This is a good round number and allows you to have a good amount of citizens and this will bring you good money. Next is to make sure your town wall is lvl 14 or higher. The higher the town wall the stronger your overal defence and the higher chance you have of not being pillaged.

If you have phlanx then try to get as many as you can, they make for a solid defence and can protect your town from a sizable army. Try to get some warriors and slingers as they can rush the enemy with pure numbers and with upgrades from your workshop (Science in the research section). Try to get 10 rams and 10 catapults as they can be brilliant for sieges of enemy towns. The best option however is to be a peaceful defender.

Try to not make any enemies as this can be the end of your town. Be nice and friendly and use trade as your power. Make friends and allys who will back you up. If you are attacked by someone then it is a chance for you to exercise your army. Firstly do not under any circumstance go rolling to their town and attack. This could end in disaster. Always check what your attacking. How big is the town? How big was the army that attacked you? what alliance are they in? all of these must be checked before you attack.

If they are still under your strengh then attack but try to be honerable about it. Warn them first. Allow them to apologise and if they send a message like stuff you then go ahead and attacked...they deserve it. Afterall the game should be fun and enjoyable right? Your just doing the game a favour by attacking a bad person, im sure people would be happy.

Ofcourse im not telling you to attack people because the best strengh is in your money and power of resources. An army should only be for defence of your island, town and allys. The more colonies you get the stronger you become. try to keep a healthy trade route going and this will in turn allow you to flourish. I'm done talking about the game for now.

I'm sure I missed information but I will make some more specified guides on certain subjects. Hope this helps you a bit and if not then why not make your own guide and help the rest of the members out?
